Godiva, Edinburgh

On a quiet street at the West end of Edinburgh's Grassmarket, the enticing Godiva is located in easy reach of the fashion conscious students, located right next to the Edinburgh College of Art. Owner, Fleur MacIntosh, has built up a solid relationship with the school by  introducing new designers into her store, supporting their first steps into the world of fashion. The store contains both vintage clothes along with original reworked designs, which are handpicked by the stores owner. Godiva's motto is to strive against 'the soul sucking monotony of fast-food fashion' - so think of it as a healthy alternative to a detrimental traipse along the high street!

Miuccia Prada's costume designs for Great Gatsby

These beautiful designs by Prada give an idea of the elegant style that will be depicted in the up-and-coming film of the Great Gatsby. I, for one, am super excited to see these costumes come to life!

Judy's Affordable Vintage Fair

Judy's Affordable Vintage Fair took place yesterday at the HMV Picturehouse in Edinburgh. Much to the delight of many students, they filled the space with vintage clothes, accessories and homewares. And all at very affordable prices! I bought a silver cropped polo neck, beautiful pink snakeskin pencil skirt along with some gold pieces of jewellery, seen above.

Alice Menter

Alice uses industrial bolts, nuts, wings plated in gold and silver combined with suede and rope to create her bold designs. I love the simplicity yet powerful impact of each of her pieces. Check out her website here.

Tom Binns

Tom Binns Design company was created in 2004, with an emphasis on irrational and powerful pieces of jewellery that go against the conventional creations of mainstream society. He has 'garnered a growing cult following for its unique designs which combine elegance with anti-conformist sentiment.' The structured stone designs are connected through lustrous colours creating statement pieces throughout his collection. You can find more details on his website here.

Ben Pentreath

Ben did the same course as I am doing at Edinburgh University, and Mum introduced me to his blog (trendy!) and his website. I gave her his book 'English Decoration' for her birthday, which I love browsing as much as she does. His website (here) has a section for his shop (also great for a wedding list!), his inspiration, where he writes a blog, his interiors - including his own enviable interior in London (I particularly love the large framed map on the wall), as well as his traditional architectural designs he has carried out. I think anyone who has an interest in fashion and styling, certainly in my case, also enjoys beautiful interiors. And with my History of Architecture degree I find it fascinating to look at his approaches to planning within his architecture.
